Pathway: AI for operational officers (BPS 17 to 19)
Eight short modules that take an officer from the basics of AI to using it safely and well in daily office work and leading its responsible use in a team.
Last reviewed: . Reviewer: Muhammad Asadullah.
Who this is for
Officers in grades BPS 17 to 19 who draft, summarise, analyse and decide as part of their daily work: section officers, deputy secretaries, assistant and deputy commissioners and their equivalents in provincial and local government, attached departments and autonomous bodies. No technical background is needed.
What you will be able to do
By the end you will be able to:
- explain in plain words what AI is, what it does well and where it fails
- use an AI assistant to draft, summarise, translate and extract information, with the right checks
- keep classified material and citizens' personal data safe
- spot the common ways AI output goes wrong and catch them before they reach a file
- set simple, sensible rules for AI use in your section
How it works
There are eight modules. Each takes 10 to 15 minutes and ends with a short exercise and a self-check. Take them in order: each one builds on the last. There is no sign-up, no test and no certificate. Read at your own pace and come back whenever you need to.
Before you start, it helps to have the glossary open in another tab and access to any AI assistant your department allows you to use for practice with public, non-sensitive text.
