Pathway: AI in agriculture services

Four short modules on using AI responsibly in agriculture, livestock and extension work, with a strong focus on checking advice before it reaches farmers.

Who this is for

Officers in agriculture, livestock and extension departments: those who advise farmers and livestock keepers, run field programmes, collect farm data or manage extension staff. It suits all grades. No technical background is needed.

If you are new to AI, start with the operational officers pathway, which covers the everyday basics: what AI is, writing prompts, protecting confidential material and checking output. This pathway applies those habits to agriculture services, where wrong advice can cost a farmer a season.

What you will be able to do

By the end you will be able to:

  • describe the main ways AI is used in agriculture and where it falls short
  • explain why AI advice to farmers must be checked by qualified experts against local conditions
  • collect and use farm and field data responsibly, with farmers' informed consent
  • help extension workers use AI for messages, translation and record keeping, with the right checks
  • recognise when a tool or app should not be recommended to farmers

How it works

There are four modules. Each takes 10 to 15 minutes and ends with a short exercise and a self-check. Take them in order: the first two set out the limits and checks that the later ones rely on. There is no sign-up, no test and no certificate.

For practice, use only public, non-sensitive material and an AI assistant your department allows. Never paste farmers' names, phone numbers, land details or CNIC numbers into a public AI tool. Keep the glossary open in another tab.

An overview of common AI uses in agriculture, from pest and disease identification to weather information and advisory chatbots and their limits.

  2. Checking AI advice before it reaches farmers

کسانوں تک پہنچنے سے پہلے مصنوعی ذہانت کے مشورے کی جانچ

Why AI-generated advice to farmers must be checked by experts, how local conditions change the right answer and what wrong advice costs.

  3. Farm data, consent and privacy

فارم کا ڈیٹا، رضامندی اور رازداری

Collecting and using farm and field data responsibly, with farmers' informed consent and proper protection of their personal information.

  4. Supporting extension workers to use AI well

توسیعی کارکنوں کو مصنوعی ذہانت کے درست استعمال میں مدد
