Pathway: AI in local government
Four short modules on using AI carefully in local services, from handling complaints and planning with data to communicating with residents in their own languages.

Who this is for
Officers who work closest to citizens: staff of municipal committees and corporations, district and tehsil administrations and local councils. If your work involves water supply, sanitation, waste collection, streets, markets, building approvals or public notices, this pathway is written for you. It suits all grades. No technical background is needed.
If you are new to AI, start with the operational officers pathway, which covers the everyday basics: what AI is, writing prompts, protecting confidential material and checking output. This pathway builds on those habits and applies them to local services.
What you will be able to do
By the end you will be able to:
- identify where AI can genuinely help local services and where it should not be used
- use AI to sort and draft replies to service complaints while keeping every decision with a named officer
- judge whether local data is good enough to plan with and keep residents' personal data safe
- prepare notices and messages in Urdu and regional languages with AI and have them checked by fluent speakers
- explain to colleagues and residents how AI was used and how to challenge a decision
How it works
There are four modules. Each takes 10 to 15 minutes and ends with a short exercise and a self-check. Take them in order: the first sets out the risks that the later ones return to. There is no sign-up, no test and no certificate.
For practice, use only public, non-sensitive material and an AI assistant your department allows. Never paste residents' names, addresses, phone numbers or complaint details into a public AI tool. Keep the glossary open in another tab.
