Pathway: AI in policing and public safety
Four short modules on where AI can support police work, the risks it brings to rights and evidence and why public trust depends on lawful, human-led decisions.

Who this is for
Police officers and civilian staff who work in administration, investigation support and public contact: those who write reports, manage rosters and records, handle complaints, support investigations or speak to the public. It is open to all ranks and grades. No technical background is needed. The operational officers pathway covers the everyday basics of using AI at work if you want to start there.
What you will be able to do
By the end you will be able to:
- explain the main uses of AI in policing and the risks each one brings
- explain why facial recognition needs lawful authority, oversight and human decisions
- recognise that audio, video and images may be faked and handle digital material so it can be verified
- know when to refer digital material to forensic experts
- use AI for reports, rosters, translation and public communication without putting case data at risk
How it works
There are four modules. Each takes 10 to 15 minutes and ends with a short exercise and a self-check. Take them in order: each one builds on the last. There is no sign-up, no test and no certificate.
This pathway gives general guidance only. It does not describe any police force's systems, does not suggest that any AI tool is approved or used by police in Pakistan and is not legal advice. Always follow the law, your force's standing orders and instructions from your supervisors and legal advisers. Decisions about arrest, charge, evidence and use of force stay with authorised people.
