Compare two versions of a document
Find every difference between two drafts of a policy, notification or agreement, with the possible effect of each change.
Last reviewed: . Reviewer: Muhammad Asadullah.
Before you paste anything: replace names, CNIC numbers and other personal details with placeholders and never use classified material. Use only AI tools your department allows.
When to use it
You have two versions of a draft, for example before and after comments from another department. You need to know exactly what changed.
The prompt
Compare the two versions of a document below and list every difference.
VERSION A (earlier):
[Paste version A]
VERSION B (later):
[Paste version B]
Give the differences as a table with these columns: section or paragraph, what version A says, what version B says, type of change (added / removed / reworded) and the possible effect of the change in one sentence.
Include small changes such as "shall" to "may", changed numbers, dates and conditions, because these often matter most. Quote the text exactly. Do not comment on whether a change is good or bad.
How to fill it in
- Paste the full text of both versions. Summaries hide exactly the changes you are looking for.
- If the documents are long, compare them section by section.
Before you use the result
- AI comparisons can miss changes. For anything important, also use the compare feature in your word processor, which is exact.
- Read the "possible effect" column as a prompt for your own thinking, not as legal advice.
